Each term we have a different Mental Fitness Focus and this term it is kindness.
The Random Acts of Kindness movement is credited to writer and activist Anne Herbert, who published a piece in 1982 with the phrase "Practice Random Acts of Kindness and Acts of Senseless Beauty". This sparked a movement that spread from the San Francisco Bay Area. While Herbert is widely recognized as the pioneer, the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation later formalized the movement. The movement has gained many followers including the British comedian Danny Wallace who published a book on the topic: Random Acts Of Kindness: 365 Ways to Make the World a Nicer Place.
Each Summer Term we celebrate the importance of kindness through the Random Acts of Kindness Week.
During this week, we encourage the college community to undertake random acts of kindness in the school day and beyond. Talking about what kindness is, and the ways in which we can show it to others, is key to helping our pupils become well rounded, positive members of society and ultimately leads to the world being that bit nicer.
