Cricket awards for Slindon College pupils

Slindon College pupils Daniel B and Enzo T have this year enjoyed success on the cricket pitch for their team Eastergate Cricket Club, netting them several awards presented recently at the Club's prize giving evening.

On Saturday 14 October, Daniel and Enzo attended the Eastergate Cricket Club U16 prize giving evening. They were both pleasantly surprised to win awards as both have only started playing cricket this year and weren't expecting to win anything at the awards.

Daniel (Year 11) collected two awards on the evening, the first award was for the 'champagne' moment (the prize was a bottle of Shloer, as he is too young to drink champagne!). This was for making a great catch to dismiss Worthing's top batsman and Sussex cricket representative, during Daniel's first ever competitive cricket game. Daniel also won the 'Spirit of Cricket' trophy, which is awarded to the player and family who have contributed to the spirit of cricket at the Eastergate Club.

Enzo (Year 8) was awarded Best Newcomer to the team from originally joining Eastergate Cricket Club as part of the Slindon Disability Team.

Slindon College's Head of sport, Mr Belcher has played a significant part in this success for helping Daniel, Enzo and other pupils to get involved in playing cricket and helping them link up with Eastergate Cricket Club. Mr Belcher said: "We are delighted to be giving our pupils the opportunity to play inclusive cricket in the community and now have several pupils playing for and representing Sussex in cricket. We are so proud of their achievements and wish them all the success in the future."

Several other Slindon College pupils are either training with and / or have been selected to represent Sussex Cricket at various levels, they are; Freddie N, Jago w, Mitchell H, Lennie H, Charlie R and Leo W and ex-pupils Alfie and Josh who also represent the county.
