Slindon College highly commended at BSA Supporting Excellence Awards 2024

Slindon College are proud to announce that we have been recognised for our wellbeing & mental health initiative, highly commended by the BSA Supporting Excellence Awards 2024. Pictured above are Mr Sharpe (SENCo) and Mrs Vlahodimou (Headteacher) who attended the award ceremony in London. There were just two other schools that had been selected as finalists for this award.

Mrs Vlahodimou (Headteacher) said:

“This award celebrates schools that have embedded robust mental health initiatives which provide supportive environments and programmes that enhance self-esteem, strengthen the school community, and promote healthy choices. We are delighted to be one of the three finalist schools from across the country!”

Providing outstanding pastoral care is at the heart of life at Slindon College and our submission to the BSA awards detailed many of the wellbeing focused initiatives our talented and committed teachers have embedded. Slindon College’s Mental Fitness Team is led by our school SENCo, Adam Sharpe, and provides unwavering support to pupils for their emotional security, confidence and overall mental health.

The Slindon College Mental Fitness Team run a range of initiatives from weekly Woodland Walks, a ‘time to talk’ programme, our newly introduced Interventions Learning Support Assistant is on hand to support dysregulated pupils and individual pupil meetings and daily reflection time all provide effective pupil support.

Adam Sharpe (SENCo) said:

“As a small school we are thrilled to be a finalist in these awards. To provide the support we do for all our pupils involves the entire school community. From the food we serve through to our forest school and support staff, teachers and Learning Support Assistants, everyone plays a part in what we offer to our pupils.”

Members of Slindon College’s Senior Leadership Team attended the Boarding Schools Association Awards Dinner in London on Tuesday the 7th May.
