Greenpower: Goodwood Heat 2024

Our pupils are back in the driving seat as Greenpower heats begin!

Slindon College has been involved in Greenpower for as long as we can remember! Last week saw the first race of the season for the team.

Greenpower inspire young people around the world to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) through a unique challenge: to design, build and race an electric car.

Team Slindon College competed in two separate 90 minute races with 80 cars taking part.
They had three new drivers in their first ever GP race, who drove magnificently, helping to achieve two excellent results:

In the first race the team came 10th out of 80 and even better, in the second race they achieved an impressive 7th place!

Well done to all the Greenpower team, their parents and our staff who came along to support. Also a big thank you to our team sponsor 'Historic Racing News. Com'.

Last year, Historic Racing News announced a sponsorship agreement with Slindon College to support the Greenpower electric car racing team for the next three years.

Mr Burbidge, who runs the programme at the College, said:

"This new agreement has allowed us to expand our team to three cars, which is tremendous news. We have been able to buy a new car to run alongside the two we have run over the last few years, which will enable even more of our pupils to get involved in the racing team."

Mr Paul Tarsey from Historic Racing News was also delighted with the arrangement:

"We will be able to give some excellent exposure not only to the Slindon College team but to the whole Greenpower initiative via the Historic Racing News Facebook page as well as our Historic Racing News podcast."
